Where in the world can you go if you want to drink all night without breaking the bank, sing from a collection of over a thousand karaoke songs, and meet finalists from the TV show X-Factor Romania? You would have to go to one of my favorite late night spots to hang out in Bucharest, Romania. That place, is Tunes Pub
While exploring the city my third night in Romania I stumbled into Tunes Pub while walking around Strada Lipscani near Old Town, just south of the Universitate Metro stop. And I made friends with 15 of some of the most fun Romanians I have ever met. Honestly, I can say this was one of my favorite places to go while in Romania. Now, something you should know about me. I can play the bass pretty good, I can get by on guitar; piano I’m a baby still trying to latch on to mom…. But singing… I don’t think I am out of the womb yet. After a couple drinks though (which are not expensive here at all, another plus) I was ready to grab the mic. The music selection is HUGE and probably due to the awesome mixture of languages and countries that come here to sing, dance, drink and be merry. Most of the songs are English however you can find some amazing Italian and Romanian songs. The crowd of singers ranges from horrible beginners (me) and seasoned professional singers (my friends). When you hear someone and think to yourself, wow, I wonder if they are a professional singer… chances are they might be. This is a popular stomping ground for X-Factor Romania singers, musicians, celebrities and seems to be a place that a lot of the local people working at the bars and clubs around the area go after work to hang out with friends and grab a quick drink. I was lucky enough to have been there for the one year anniversary party of the opening of the club. It was a huge party with food and games and good times. The staff is very friendly and the manager is wonderful and most importantly involved in the business which is why I believe this place will continue to have success. They WANT you to come and have a wonderful time. Also, it accepts credit cards, this was a HUGE convenience for me since I could run up my bar tab to 169.28 Lei and not have to use cash… (Note at the time of this 169.28 Lei is about 40 US Dollars). Also super convenient about this place, and if you are a traveler in Europe you know how important this next phrase is… FREE WI-FI! Now, with the number of drinks and snacks that 169 Lei cost would have easily been a bar tab of over 150 dollars in the USA. I remember the sun had already been up for a few hours before the bar closed for the “night”. Oh Europe…. how I miss you when I’m here in the states with our 1:30am last call for alcohol. The drinks are great and not watered down, and they have custom cocktails, like the Poison or Voodoo.
